The ten US states with the highest rate of gun deaths have a gun ownership average of 47%. In other words, in the ten states with the highest level of guns violence, 47% of their residents own a gun. Conversely, in the ten states with the lowest level of gun violence, 22% of their residents own a gun.
A gun ownership level that is 2.2 times higher in high gun ownership states (47% vs 22%) has resulted in gun deaths that are 3.3 time higher in those states (19.4 vs 5.8 gun death rate per 100,000 people per year).
